Happy New Year

It was just recently when a friend of mine paid me a courtesy call. It has been years seeing him in person despite there being numerous calls in the past year. I was not shocked that he had his family with him in his massive SUV truck. It was a pleasant surprise from him and it really showed that friendship could last a couple of years. Well, the year is 2023, and it seems age is catching up. I reminisced these times on past mistakes and the possibilities of what I would have become if I had committed to a few tasks here and there. Nonetheless, I am glad to be turning 7 years in the writing industry, an attribute that surpasses pervious defeats especially in academia and relations.

Well, it is day five of the New Year and it seems no one is in the mention of New Year resolutions as it was in previous years. Maybe a bucket list would offer more satisfaction as opposed to the changes in habit we all want to start in this new month. Well, something I would partake this year is building on relationships. I have learnt in a not so friendly way that bridges burn and flowers need to be watered for them to look beautiful and smell nice. I would ponder on the thought of finding a suitable life partner as I earlier mentioned age is catching up leave alone my peers having up to two kids.

Happy New Year was not much celebrated as of previous years in that it lacked the muse and ambience. It was like Boxing Day, the day after Christmas when everyone is either with family at home or even on a vacation in some fancy island. With the country having a new administration, finances seemed to echo in the pockets of the many Kenyans; thus, celebrations were limited despite the calm environment the past festive season provided. It is with such there is a need to create a bucket list throughout the year in anticipation of the small wins 2023 would provide.

Family has proved to be a core essential in the commemoration and identity of a festive season. I mean, where would one find small kids to share laughter and play some football. The older generation to keep you in check, and the elderly to provide comfort in our young struggles. Where else would one recollect the memories of a childhood so innocent and where would one use such memories to forge ahead in their livelihoods? Family is core to the healthy sustenance of a human being. For me, I played some football with my nephews and nieces; a stance that would lift my spirits throughout the year in anticipation of another festive season, a trophy would surely be in place at the end of the year celebrations. It was a happy new year in deed.

Happy New Year was a splendid celebration for my folks and me. I spent it in church and it was an amazing event. We were blessed by the church head and am I happy that this could the year I spread my wings in terms of healthy relations with other people. Maybe meet new people, take a few flights, and maybe get a life partner, Happy New Year!
